A Simple Favor (2018)

Let's Watch is a space to discuss what we're watching, whether it be in the movie theater or in your living room. We hope to generate thoughtful discussion about a range of TV shows and films that find their way into the current zeitgeist. We look for insights in unexpected places, and are open to opinions from anyone who wants to join the watching community.

What are we watching? Anything that you are! From award-winning shows to cheesy Hallmark Christmas movies, we think they are all worth talking about.

Why does it matter? Stories reflect our current culture, allow us to reconsider history, and break open imagined futures. The stories we encounter through TV and film bring us comfort, open our minds, change our perspectives, make us laugh, and manage to stick with us long after the credits roll.

Who am I? First and foremost, I am a HUGE fan film and television, and I watch just about everything (I mean...everything one person can reasonable watching in this day and age). I am also a second year PhD student at the University of Denver and Iliff School of Theology, studying the intersections between on-screen stories (TV, movies, video games, etc.), religion, fandom, and new technologies.

Ultimately, I aim to move beyond viral memes, flashy hot takes, and toxic groupthink. Instead of stanning in the fires of diehard fandom, I want to engage with fellow fans of watching, those who are open to all kinds of new stories. This is not just a place for published film critics or film school graduates; anyone can bring fresh insight and perspectives to our shared watching experience. I hope to bring curiositydeep engagement, and a little bit of fun.

I hope that you will join me in the watching!
